Association NÓS was founded in 1982 by the initiative of a group of parents of children and young people with disability. Its mission is to promote the social inclusion of children, young people and adults with disability or in a situation of social disadvantage and develops services, projects and activities in partnership with the families and the community.
The values that guide the life of the Association are based on confidence, cooperation, equity and hope. It now has several services such as:
Early Childhood Support Service: for children up to 6 years of age, with disability or in risk of serious development delay. The main goal is to support children and their families, intending to create conditions that improve their quality of life.
Day-Care Center ‘Os Pirilampos’: is intended to children of the 0 to 3 years and the goals are to contribute to the harmonious development of children, assuring both an afective and physicaly secure context and to promote the inclusion of children with special educational needs in regular groups of day-care center, collaborating in its precocious flaws of any inadaptation or deficiency and adequately advise and conduct the detected situations.
Special Education School: is a School of Special Education and External Support of children integrated in regular education establishments.
Centre of Occupational Activities: for adult/young (over 18) with mental deficiency or multi deficiency of severe or deep degree, promoting the autonomy in activities of the daily life and to develop mobility as well as training of social skills and competencies.
Center for Family Support and Parental Counseling: a service with a specific response in intervention with children and young people at risk and their families.
Insertion Company “Clube Família”: which targets group of people less supported regarding labour market. This service allows a diversified number of services of welfare assistance (occupation of spare time, transport of children, accompaniment and support the elderly people, maintenance and hygiene, support to the health and fulfilment of fiscal obligations), sporadic or continuous, to address specific needs of families.
Residential Home: The objective is to assure a home for adult people with disability and reduced levels of personal and social autonomy.
RSI:-Service for people in social exclusion, and that benefit from Social Inclusion Income provided by the Social Security. The main goal is to improve their skills in order to empower them to make changes in their lives (personal and social levels).
GIP:-Service for unemployed people giving information about Jobs or courses.
About 433 people attend all our services. The educational provision for adult learners is located at the premises of the association and it has the capacity to hold 12 people. There is a new space for 30 learners in a new project, with residential homes and a house care service for people with deficiency that's already finished the construction and it's waiting for formal agreements from the government to open.
